I was born and raised in Te Awamutu and attended school locally. I grew up enjoying playing sports, particularly rugby and cricket.
My accounting career began straight from school in January of 1977 at a local accounting firm. I studied part time for my accounting qualifications during which time I married my wife Sue, played rugby and cricket and helped raise our three boys.
In March of 1992, Sue and I opened Mervyn Gyde & Associates and built the business over 10 years, merging in November of 2001 with Graeme Wansbone to form Gyde Wansbone. Gyde Wansbone is a member of NZ CA, an association of independent accounting firms throughout the country. I have been a director since its inception in 2000 and am currently chairman.
Over the last 20 years I have been involved in the community as a school Board of Trustees member and member of the Te Awamutu Kiwanis Club. I was a founding member and chairman of the Te Awamutu Events Centre Trust and over nine years helped progress the design and build of the centre through to its opening in 2001.
I am on the boards of Waikato Bay of Plenty Netball Franchise Ltd (Magic) and Netball Bay of Plenty and really enjoy my involvement in the governance of this sport.
I also believe community involvement is very important and I am a member of the Te Awamutu Plunket advisory panel and Vision Te Awamutu. Our community involvement is a definite strength of our business.
I have also enjoyed coaching my boys at rugby and still maintain a passion for the game.
All of these experiences complement my formal training and enable me to offer practical solutions to everyday business problems.
I believe in establishing close relationships with my clients and enjoy being part of their family and business lives. I particularly enjoy helping them develop their businesses and grow wealth.
