At Gyde Wansbone we usually take a day out of the office in April for planning and team building.  From the 2011 year we decided to spend the day putting something back in to our community.  We know it has been a difficult time financially for many lately, and our community organisations are no exception.

Community Work Day 2017

In early April this year the GW team took a day out of the office to support the community.  This year we worked with the Mangaohoi Stream Care Group weeding and clearing overgrown areas and spreading bark, on the banks of the stream.  As usual we had lots of fun working together as a team and ended the day with a great sense of satisfaction at what we achieved, and delighted to be part of such a worthwhile project.

Community Work Day 2014

Our fourth annual Community Work Day was held on the 11th of April.  This year the Te Awamutu Playcentre was the recipient of our labours for the day.

Our major task was re-barking two playgrounds (after Merv and Ken dismantled a fence to let the truck in).  We also turned our hand to gardening, cleaning, painting and a general tidy up of the Centre.

A fun day was had by all despite the rain (the farmers amongst us were smiling).  We managed to tick off every job on the two page list Playcentre had prepared!

As always on these days, we discovered hidden talents and surprised ourselves with what we could achieve! Another great GW team effort!

Community Work Day 2013

On the 18th of April 2013 the Gyde Wansbone team spent the day at the Maungatautari Ecological Island.  This was our third annual Community day, a great opportunity to make a difference in our community, combined with new experiences and learning for the team.
After an early morning tea to provide sustenance for the day ahead, we set off for Maungatautari.  We spent the day clearing trails and removing overgrown flax bushes - hard work in a magic environment.

This was a great opportunity for the team to visit this fascinating project and for most of us this was our first visit even though it is on our doorstep, and we were very impressed with what we saw.
The Island is run mostly by volunteers who were there to show us the way.  We stopped for lunch at nearby Out in the Styx Cafe where a Maungatautari representative shared some of the history of the project, and information about the bird and animal populations developing there.

The highlights of the day included up close and personal encounters with the resident tuataras and the takahe family.

Community Work Day 2012

On the 27th of April 2012 the Gyde Wansbone team left the office for a day to help out at Pirongia Forest Park Lodge.

2012 was the second year of our Community Work Day initiative, the scout hall repainting being our first project in 2011.

This year the task was cutting and clearing gorse ready for replanting – a daunting task for a group of accountants, but one which was approached with enthusiasm, team work and a great sense of achievement at the end of the day.

Community Work Day 2011

In April 2011 we undertook to paint the local scout hall.  Our team donned painting gear and threw themselves in to the project for the day.  We discovered new talents in the team-including several brave (or foolhardy) souls with no fear of heights, and some ingenious modification of tools to reach those hard-to-paint places!  We were very satisfied with our day's work-it's amazing what a bunch of pen pushers can achieve!

Our original brief was to paint the windows, doors, window frames etc as these were in most need of protection before the Winter. With a great team effort we also managed to paint 95% of the weatherboards.

Unfortunately we were not quite able to complete the building due to lack of scaffolding and/or preparation in one or two places.
